Book Review : American Royals

Hey guys! So, I’m back today with another book review. A few weeks ago I read American Royals by Katherine McGee. And needless to say, I loved it SO much. The sequel comes out next month(it’s called Majesty btw) and I cannot wait to see what happens next in the story.

In the book, the Washington family is the royal family of America. George Washington became king after the Revolutionary War instead of the president. And now all these years later, his family is still on the throne.

I think part of the reason that I really liked this book was the detail and the way it included so much history. I have to give major props to Katherine McGee because there were so many details, and I’m sure so much research went into this book. She not only had to know American history but also A LOT of royal protocol. This book was perfect for someone like me, I’m a sucker for royal drama and history. It was really a win-win for me.

Anyway, I highly suggest this book. While it is YA fiction, I still really enjoyed it! I cannot wait to read Majesty.

Thanks so much for reading!

Hey guys! So, two weeks ago I started a new series here on The Monogrammed Em. This is the second installment of The Pop Culture Edit. I really hope that you guys enjoy today’s post. Let’s get into all the happening of the past two weeks.
1. Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner are Parents

Last week, Joe Jonas (1/3 of one of my favorite bands ever) and his wife, actress Sophie Turner welcomed their first child together. It’s a baby girl! I was so happy when I found this out, Joe has always been my favorite Jo Bro and I know he’s going to be the best dad. The couple has not officially announced anything and tend to stay pretty private online. I am really hoping to see pictures of her soon!
2. Taylor Swift Has a New Album???!!!

Taylor announced folklore on July 23rd and it came out that night at midnight. She shocked fans everywhere when she shared that she had written her 8th studio album during quarantine. I have to give Taylor props because I have not been nearly as productive the past few months haha. Folklore is an incredible example of the immense talent that Taylor Swift holds. The production is spectacular and the songwriting takes me back to some of Taylor’s early days. I love Taylor and I have for years. One of the reasons being her songwriting and storytelling ability. It’s so prevalent on folklore and I love it so much. If you haven’t listened yet, do yourself a favor and do it!!

3. All The Bach Drama

**THIS INCLUDES SPOILERS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON OF THE BACHELORETTE SO IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW PLS DONT READ**
The world of The Bachelor/ette has been a whirlwind the past week or so. So, Clare Crawley was announced as the next bachelorette after Peter’s season concluded (sidenote: If you watched Peter’s season I’m sorry, I feel your pain).  With the ongoing pandemic filming for the upcoming season has been challenging. The cast was quarantined in a resort and had very strict guidelines. However, it was recently announced that Clare has quickly fallen in love with one of her contestants and wanted to end filming. (Isn’t that like a breach of some contract???) Anywho, The Bachelorette is going to replace Clare and they’ve chosen Tayshia Adams. She was one of the last contestants on Colton Underwood’s season. I’m eager to see the show and how everything has been handled once it all airs. I’m totally missing Bachelor Mondays lol.

4. Things to Watch This Week

BASEBALL IS BACK. Even though this baseball season looks a lot different than normal (shorter season, and even COVID outbreaks). Fans across the country are rejoicing (me included).
I finished Criminal Minds last week. It was such a good show from season 1 all the way to season 15. I haven’t ever really been into true crime shows, besides Law & Order haha. But, Criminal Minds caught my attention and kept me reeled in from 15 straight seasons. If you haven’t watched it yet, you need to!
Beyonce dropped Black is King which is somewhat of a retelling of the Lion King. An album was also dropped alongside the movie. It was incredible. The videography, the choreography, the music, the fashion. UNREAL. It really was amazing and you should definitely watch it!

5. Book Review

I just finished American Royals by Katherine McGee and I really enjoyed it. It was full of drama, royalty, and history. It takes place in America and instead of having a president, the Washington family has sat on the throne since the founding of the country. I have to give this book 4.5 stars. It was super enjoyable and I cannot wait to read the sequel that comes out next month.

Thanks so much for checking today’s post out!
