5 Things That Put Me in a Better Mood

Hey guys! Happy Tuesday and happy March. It’s been quite a year. I can’t believe nearly a year ago, our lives really changed. I think it’s super important to do things that make us happy these days! So, today I’m sharing 5 things that genuinely put me in a better mood!

Buy flowers – Flowers literally brighten my mood immediately. This weekend, I bought flowers from Trader Joe’s. As soon as I put them in my room, I felt so much happier.
Blast some tunes! – It makes me so happy just to listen to my favorite music. I put on a playlist and I’m lost in the music.
Light a candle – There is nothing like a fragrant candle to boost your mood! I love lighting a candle while I write a blog post or work on school stuff. It makes me so happy.
Watching my favorite shows – If I’m tired or not having a good day, nothing makes me feel better than turning my tv to one of my favorite shows. It might be a reality show or a period drama. But it’ll more than likely make me feel 100% better.
Sit in the sun – This isn’t something I can do every day, but sitting in the sun makes me feel so good. Maybe, I’m a house plant?? Who knows lol.

Today’s post is short and sweet. But I hope that you guys enjoy! See you soon. 🙂

The January Edit

Hey guys! I can’t believe that January is almost over. This year, I am starting a new series on the blog. At the end of each month, I’m going to do a huge round-up of things I’ve loved throughout the month. I am so excited to share this with you guys. So, let’s get into it 🙂

What I Watched in January
1. Bridgerton – I don’t really know if Bridgerton counts for January because I originally watched it at the end of December. But I’ve rewatched it two times this month, so I’ll let it slide. LOL. This show was so fun. It gave me Gossip Girl/Pride and Prejudice vibes, and I loved that. I’m a huge fan of period dramas, so that was a plus. The sets and costumes were amazing! And it recently got renewed for a season two, and I am so excited to see how they tell Anthony Bridgerton’s story.
2. The Queen’s Gambit – It’s no secret that I love period dramas. I talk about it a lot. So, after seeing numerous people on Instagram share about this show, I knew that I had to give it a watch. I actually finished it yesterday. It was great. Anya Taylor-Joy was phenomenal to watch as Beth Harmon. I also loved the music featured in the show and the costumes!
3. Everyone is Doing Great – This show was a project that two One Tree Hill alumni created, directed, and produced. James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti, who played Nathan and Chase on OTH respectively star in this hilarious comedy. I’ve watched like 6 episodes of this show, and I have to say it is absolutely hilarious. If you’re looking for a laugh, I highly recommend this show!

What I Read in January
I feel like I was a little slack in my reading this month. I did finish one book. It was The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.  It’s about two coworkers that hate each other. But as you read, you realize that that couldn’t be farther from the truth. It was so cheesy and cute. It’s becoming a movie soon! Lucy Hale is going to star in it. I can’t wait to see Lucy and Josh bicker on the big screen!

You can shop these items above. I am literally living in my Amazon loungewear set. It is the most comfortable thing ever. I am also obsessing over these nails from Impress Manicure. I’m currently wearing them, and they’ve lasted for nearly two weeks. Plus, they are under $7. This Superstay Matte Lipstick from Maybelline is gorgeous, and it’s true to its word. It’s definitely long-lasting. I have the shade, Revolutionary.
What I Listened to in January
Every month, I make a playlist on Spotify. And January was no exception. I have 80 songs on it and it is literally all over the place. It’s linked below if you wanna check it out!
Some of my favorite songs on it are Drivers Licence by Olivia Rodrigo, Confetti by Little Mix, 10% by Kaytranada, and Number One Fan by Muna. Also, I’m on A huge Aly & AJ kick.
January Pop!
January has been a big month for pop culture! I’ve rounded up some fun stories to share with you guys.
– Halsey is going to be a mom!
The singer posted pictures on IG today confirming that she is having a baby. I love Halsey’s music and I’m so happy for her. Wishing her all the best!
-Y’all, I am still not over the fashion at the 2021 Inauguration. I’m still thinking about Michelle Obama and the outfit that she absolutely slayed in!!
-The Bold Type is ending after season 5. This news makes me so sad. I truly love this show and the stories that it shares. It’s unafraid, raw, and real. I’ve heard that there is a lot of drama going on behind the scenes. Regardless, I’m proud of the lead actresses for standing up for one another. Girl Power! (If you haven’t seen this show, it’s on Hulu and I freaking love it!!)
-Bach Nation Drama: Clare (Who fell in love on the first night of the Bachelorette) and Dale (Her fiance/boyfriend? I honestly don’t even know.) have called it quits. They’ve been together since last summer. And apparently, Clare found out on IG with the rest of the world. I feel bad for her. She seems like she just wants to fall in love and run off into the sunset. Hopefully, she’ll find that someone soon.

Okay, that was a lot. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I appreciate it more than you know!

See you soon!

Book Review – The Lies That Bind

I get commission through clicks and purchases made through links in this post.

Hey hey hey! Happy Thursday! I’m coming at you with a book review today and I could not be more excited. So, I read The Lies That Bind back in December and it was so good!

This story follows Cecily Gardner as she falls in love with Grant. This book is set in NYC (which honestly made me so happy. Y’all know I love NYC). It also takes place in 2001 and 9/11 is an integral part of the story.

I was born in 1997, so I was only 3 years old when 9/11 happened. However, it has impacted so many facets of my life. My dad was a firefighter for years. Then back in December, I visited the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan.  It was such a sobering experience, but I’m so glad that I took the time to go through it.

Anyway, Cecily and Grant start seeing one another and in the chaos of a new relationship,  9/11 happens. Not to mention Grant says/does a few shady things. In the aftermath of the horrific event, Cecily can’t seem to find Grant anywhere. Through so many twists and turns, Cecily has to figure out who Grant really was and what she wants in her life.

I’ve read a few other Emily Giffin books in my life. She is a great author! This book was a favorite of mine. It was in my top 3 reads of 2020.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I desperately wanted to know what happened and what all of the little details meant. I stayed up until 4:30 one night over Christmas break just to finish this book. It was just so good.

If you like drama/romance and even history (even though 9/11 is definitely recent, it’s still history) you should read this book. I felt like I was right alongside Cecily as she would walk around the East Village. (I’m a sucker for NYC).

All that to say, I really enjoyed this book. Have you read it? If so, did you like it?

Thanks for checking out today’s post!

5 Things to Do When Boredom Strikes

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday! I know the past few weeks have been crazy. If you aren’t used to spending a lot of time at home, these next few weeks can be tricky! Today, I’m sharing 5 things you can do when you get bored during this social distancing time!
1. Read a New Book or a Few –
If you know me, you’ll know that I love reading! So, naturally, I hope to read 3 or 4 books during this social distancing. If you’re like me and you have a surplus of books you can read those! However, if you don’t have many books on hand you can always use services like Libby or Hoopla! All you have to do is put your library card info in and you can check out e-books! Hoopla also has tons of audiobooks to choose from!

2. Learn a New Language –
So, I’ve been attempting to learn French for almost a year now. And I’m doing okay. This would be a great time to work on my French skills. I use Duolingo and it’s great because it’s FREE. You can learn so many different languages there. I highly recommend it!

3. Watch a new TV show –
As I’m writing this post I’m also watching Vampire Diaries. Hopefully, during these next few weeks, I can knock out a big chunk of its 8 seasons. Let me know if you guys wanna see Netflix/Hulu/Amazon recommendations. Another show that I want to watch more of is Beverly Hills 90210. I started it a couple years ago and I really love it!

4. Clean Out –
This is a great time to go through your makeup, clothes, or desk and deep clean. I’m not gonna lie I keep so much stuff.  I really need to take this time to go through my stuff and decide what I don’t want anymore.

5. Work Out-
I really need to get into a routine of doing this every day. This time is a great place to start. You could go outside for a walk or try a routine online! There are lots of great videos and apps of workouts that can easily be done at home.

I hope this post helps you out! Let me know how you’re spending your social distancing!
Thanks for reading! Stay safe and healthy!
xo Emily
