Hey hey hey! Happy Thursday! I’m coming at you with a book review today and I could not be more excited. So, I read The Lies That Bind back in December and it was so good!

This story follows Cecily Gardner as she falls in love with Grant. This book is set in NYC (which honestly made me so happy. Y’all know I love NYC). It also takes place in 2001 and 9/11 is an integral part of the story.

I was born in 1997, so I was only 3 years old when 9/11 happened. However, it has impacted so many facets of my life. My dad was a firefighter for years. Then back in December, I visited the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan.  It was such a sobering experience, but I’m so glad that I took the time to go through it.

Anyway, Cecily and Grant start seeing one another and in the chaos of a new relationship,  9/11 happens. Not to mention Grant says/does a few shady things. In the aftermath of the horrific event, Cecily can’t seem to find Grant anywhere. Through so many twists and turns, Cecily has to figure out who Grant really was and what she wants in her life.

I’ve read a few other Emily Giffin books in my life. She is a great author! This book was a favorite of mine. It was in my top 3 reads of 2020.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I desperately wanted to know what happened and what all of the little details meant. I stayed up until 4:30 one night over Christmas break just to finish this book. It was just so good.

If you like drama/romance and even history (even though 9/11 is definitely recent, it’s still history) you should read this book. I felt like I was right alongside Cecily as she would walk around the East Village. (I’m a sucker for NYC).

All that to say, I really enjoyed this book. Have you read it? If so, did you like it?

Thanks for checking out today’s post!
